UPDATE 3/25/19: Still not seeing any new news…
Looking for a great charcoal grill available now or something with a standard grate size? Kamado Joe has released their KJ III line and M Grills has updated their M1 for 2019. Check out the best options out there in our overview of the best do-it-all charcoal grills. We will add RTIC as soon as we have more information.
Well RTIC has seemed to have done an admiral job throughout the last couple years moving into the high-end outdoor refrigeration (cooler) space once ruled by Yeti so it only makes sense that they continue to branch out into other outdoor endeavors. If you’ve read about RTIC it is interesting to note that their specialty is in the shipping of big, bulky items as part of a direct-to-consumer model. With that in mind, it makes total sense that today they announced their arrival into the high-end outdoor grilling category with the announcement of a 24″ Kamado Grill to be available in March of 2019.
This 24″ grill has a unique rectangular shape with rounded corners. It will clearly not fit accessories designed for 18″ and 24″ Round Kamado Grills such as the Big Green Egg or Kamado Joe, however, it does not adopt Primo’s oval dimensions either. In this regard hopefully, RTIC introduces a variety of accessories along with the unit to quench the immediate desire for items such as a heat diffuser, cast iron grates, or motorized accessories such as a rotisserie.
The firebox in this guy looks absolutely massive but at this point, there is no indication that it can be split for direct/indirect utilization. It does look like there are 4 insets along the perimeter of the firebox which will likely serve to provide support for a heat diffuser? The gasket appears to be the standard felt issue and not quite the stainless steel being offered on the Kamado Joe or the Weber Summit Charcoal. The shelving appears to be bamboo and the hinge unit looks very beefy.
I’m sure we will all know quite a bit more as we get closer to a release date. At the indicated price of $779 it certainly wins the 24″ battle on cost, however, without an indication of heat management accessories and additional capabilities such as multi-level cooking it is hard to tell if this is truly going to be a game changer. We look forward to finding out more!
